Immunity Tea - For A Nutrient Rich Transition Into the Warm Seasonal Months

As the seasons shift toward warmer months, our bodies invite renewed attention to hydration, immune support, and the nourishing rhythms of self-care. Staying hydrated during the hot summer months supports a balanced gut microbiome, and incorporating immunity-supporting herbs into your daily routine offers a simple yet meaningful way to tend to your physical well-being.

The following recipe for immunity herb cubes makes it easy to access a concentrated dose of beneficial botanicals at any time; simply blend, freeze, and steep as needed.

The Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Fresh lemon (juice and zest)
  • Fresh ginger root
  • Turmeric (fresh or powdered)
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Filtered water
  • Raw, unfiltered honey (optional, added when steeping)

Equipment:

  • High-speed blender
  • Silicone ice cube tray

Instructions:

  1. Combine lemon, ginger, turmeric, and mint leaves in a high-speed blender with filtered water.
  2. Blend until smooth and thoroughly combined.
  3. Pour the mixture into a silicone ice cube tray and freeze until solid.
  4. Store frozen cubes in a sealed container.

Health Benefits by Ingredient

Turmeric

Turmeric’s primary active compound, curcumin, has well-documented anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Clinical reviews suggest it may support cognitive function, cardiovascular health, and the body’s management of oxidative stress, though bioavailability varies and is enhanced by pairing with black pepper (Hewlings & Kalman, 2017). Its warm, earthy presence in this blend provides both therapeutic value and depth of flavor.

Ginger

Fresh ginger is a well-established ally for digestive health, offering meaningful relief from nausea and supporting overall gastrointestinal function. Its anti-inflammatory compounds contribute to cardiovascular health, and its warming qualities make it particularly supportive during seasonal transitions.

Lemon

Lemon provides a significant source of vitamin C, which plays a central role in immune function and collagen synthesis. Its citric acid content supports digestive processes, and its alkalizing effect, despite its acidity, contributes to a balanced internal environment. Lemon’s antioxidant compounds offer additional protective benefits.

Mint

Beyond its refreshing flavor, mint offers genuine therapeutic value. It supports healthy digestion, promotes a sense of relaxation, and some research suggests its aromatic compounds may support cognitive performance and attention (Kennedy & Scholey, 2006). Its effect on the nervous system is gently calming.

Honey (Raw and Unfiltered)

Raw, unfiltered honey, added when steeping rather than blended, retains its full spectrum of beneficial compounds. It supports immune function, has demonstrated wound-healing properties, and contains prebiotic compounds that nourish beneficial gut bacteria. Its mild sweetness makes the blend more palatable while contributing to its therapeutic profile.

This simple ritual of preparing and enjoying an immunity herb tea offers more than physical nourishment. It creates a moment of intentional self-care, a pause in the day to tend to your body with attention and gratitude.
